Talk to You
TALK TO YOU
(Capo 2nd Fret)
Intro: (instrumental verse)
It’s late in the evening, time slipping away.
I didn’t notice the darkness; my thoughts got in the way.
Looking all around me, at things I need to do
I’m all alone here, wish I could talk to you.
Chorus:
I will still need you
I will still want you
I will still love you if you’re gone.
Something else to add now, to my life’s regrets
The list keeps getting longer, don’t think I’ll forget
Memories they haunt me, a life we never lived
I just think I’m empty, got nothing left to give
Chorus:
Instrumental Verse:
Chorus:
Bridge:
When we first met love was so easy
But then as time went by you wanted to be free.
It’s late in the evening, time slipping away.
I didn’t notice the darkness, thoughts of you got in the way
I know it’s over, there’s nothing left to do
My heart’s still hurting, wish I could talk to you.
Last Chorus, play twice
Baby, I still need you
You know that I still want you
I still love you, now you’re gone
This is the saddest song on the album. The original lyrics were “I wanna talk to you”, but I like “Wish I could talk to you” better. When I play this song solo the acoustic guitar part leans a bit on Neil Young back in the 1970’s, with the “hammer” style of my right and left hands. When the band got hold of this song it lost that Neil Young vibe. The chorus in this song is a steal from something Leslie and I started saying to each other 20 years ago – but not in a break-up kind of way! We call it I3, or I to the third power. It’s engraved in the inside of my wedding ring. I feel pretty bad for the guy in this song.
