Everything
Everything
Intro:
Thinking of the times that we would
Look up in the sky
Watching clouds, the patterns change
They’re slowly drifting by
Chorus:
Remember all the)times
And all the songs we sing
Remember every rhyme
Remember everything
All the stories that I told you
Across these many years
And the quiet conversations
Facing all your fears
Chorus:
Bridge:
Memories holding on to you
Living life while you pursue
All your dreams, and
Walking hand in hand together
With the rising sun
Now you’re following my footsteps
More memories to come.
In the mornings when you wake up
And face another day
You’re not alone and never will be
You’ll always be ok
Chorus:
Outro:
I wrote this song for my daughter, Landis. I wrote a few songs for our granddaughter, Evie, on my first two albums and Landis asked me to write one for her. After I wrote this I heard a song by John Prine on his last album called “I Remember Everything”. I guess there’s a similarity due to it’s old guys writing a song about remembering, but my song is asking my daughter, Landis, to remember everything after I’m gone. The first few times I sang this, while writing it, I got a lump in my throat. I love knowing that when inevitably I am no longer here that Landis can put this one and listen to it and know that her father loves her, and that she’ll never be alone. I tried to make this thought a little obscure in the lyrics, but I think it’s pretty obvious actually. Kate helped with the line “Memories holding on to you”, and Leslie was my co-writer, like always. The lines in the song bounce around a little in time, some are Landis as a child, some are as an adult, some are in the future.
